Mark Podwal (1945–2024) was one of the leading American Jewish artists of his generation, earning international acclaim and honors for his innovative images of the Jewish experience.

Initially known for his drawings on The New York Times Op-Ed page, he went on to work with Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Met Opera, Holocaust museums, and historic Jewish sites.

Podwal illustrated more than forty books and participated in over 170 exhibitions. His work is represented in over eighty public collections, and Columbia University holds his papers. The estate is managed by his sons.
